How to Measure Outdoor Cushions
Custom cushion manufacturers use a few simple tips to measure a outdoor cushion. If you have outdoor cushions that fit properly but are worn out, you can measure them easily for replacements. First, lay the outdoor cushion flat on the floor. Measure the overall length with a measuring tape and record the measurement. Most outdoor cushions are one piece, and the seat and back are connected. Measure the seat and the back separately and record those measurements, too. Measure the seat depth by measuring from the front of the outdoor cushion to where it connects to the back. Measure the back the same way. Measure the width of the outdoor cushion at its widest point and the thickness of the outdoor cushion: most have at least a 4-inch thickness. Finally, double-check all your measurements. If you do not have existing outdoor cushions, you will need to measure the chair frame. Start by measuring from the front rail to the back of the seat and add 1 inch to that measurement. Measure from the top of the back to where the seat begins. If the seat supports stretch or there is a curve to the back of the chair, add 1.5 inches. Measure between the arms to obtain the seat width, and for thickness, again, plan on at least a 4-inch depth. | ![]() |
