Quality Construction
Our Mahogany Adirondack Chair is constructed of kiln-dried 1.25-inch Dark Red Meranti Variety Mahogany with a finished thickness of 1.1 inches. Mahogany is a tropical hardwood that is easily maintained and naturally insect-, fungus-, and rot-resistant. It is a strong wood comparable in strength to oak and teak, and is much more scratch-resistant than softer woods like cedar and pine. With best regards for our environment, we take every effort to ensure that our mahogany is sourced from well-managed permanent forests that allocate re-plantation.
All our exposed hardware is of the highest-quality brass with stainless steel finish to eliminate rust and staining of the wood. Our bolts are of 0.3-inch diameter to give us a strong securing fastener. We also use 0.3-inch hanger bolts for fastening the back of the arm to the back leg. (A hanger bolt is a bolt that is a wood screw on one side and nut threaded on the other). Hanger bolts give the arm a very strong, sturdy and virtually unbreakable bond to the chair.
Some of the special features of our furniture include plugged screw holes that are sanded flush for a smooth finish. It has been our experience that plugged screw holes not only look and feel nice by adding a touch of quality, but they also provide a purpose. With basic counter-sunk screw holes, the wood has a tendency to surface-crack at the middle of the hole, and then extend to the end grain of the wood. Though this kind of cracking is not damaging to the furniture, we prevent it by plugging the screw holes. We also provide button caps to cover screw holes that have to be left unplugged for shipping, leaving no exposed holes on the finished product.
All edges of our furniture are routered with a round-over. This gives our furniture a smooth, sculptured look and feel, and eliminates snags and splinters.

Caring for your furniture and obtaining the look you desire.
The Mahogany Adirondack Chair is constructed of Dark Red Meranti Variety Mahogany. Meranti Mahogany is a tropical hardwood harvested under strict government control allocating reforestation. It is very durable, insect resistant and rot resistant. As with all wood it is a living material and will continue to respond to climate conditions even after being made into a piece of furniture. It is for this reason there are many steps that can be taken to obtain the desired look you want out of your furniture.
Rustic look: If you leave your Mahogany Adirondack Chair outdoors and unprotected from the elements it will weather to a light silvery gray. As with any wood left unprotected you may notice some surface checking and raised grain as it ages. This is normal and doesnt affect the structural integrity of your furniture. Recommended maintenance while achieving the rustic look is to periodically wash your furniture using a mix of 10% bleach and water to remove dust, dirt or stains that might present itself onto your furniture.
Maintaining the natural color: The Mahogany Adirondack Chair comes with a boiled linseed oil finish. If you prefer to maintain the natural beauty of the Mahogany wood enhanced by the Boiled Linseed Oil finish we recommend a periodic maintenance application of Boiled linseed oil. Boiled Linseed Oil, Teak Oil or name brand deck water proofing containing UV protection are suitable finishes. Apply using a multi-purpose spray bottle and wipe off excess oil with a cloth. Applying the oil will ensure the furniture is protected from color fading UV rays and its appearance maintained.
A periodic application is recommended as weather conditions indicate for your area.
Note: We like to remind you to please read all instructions on the label of the oil you use and follow proper procedures for discarding rags.
Polyurethane finish: Polyurethane can be used, however, it is only recommended if your furniture is not going to be placed in direct sunlight. Polyurethane dries hard on top of the surface of the wood (like paint) instead of soaking into the wood such as Boiled Linseed or Teak Oil. If placed in direct sunlight a polyurethane finish may crack and chip.
Painting your furniture: The Mahogany Adirondack Chair comes with a Boiled Linseed Oil finish. However, you can still choose to paint the furniture if you desire. If you choose to paint the furniture it is recommended that you first apply an oil based primer. Use of paint should be of a high grade exterior paint.

Purchased 4 Mahogany Adirondack Chairs. They've been on our deck now for a couple of weeks. Many of the seat boards have already began to crack from the screw holes to the end of the boards. Several of the boards have already come lose. Repair is not straight-forward because of the plugs in the screw holes. Some of the plugs also seem to be shrinking allowing rain water to soak in. My fear is that these chairs will be short lived if not stored in-doors or under cover when not in use. Based on price and being constructed of mahogany, I was expecting them to last for years with just basic maintenance which I'm sure will not be the case.
