About Fir Wood
Fir has characteristics very similar to Cedar. Well known for its combination of stability and light weight, it is commonly used in furniture, both here and abroad. While being naturally weather-resistant, it may be further stained or finished to endure and age gracefully for many years. If left unfinished, the wood will fade to a silver gray when used outdoors. Like Cedar, the grain is usually straight and displays prominent growth rings and knots.

These are lightweight chairs and a bargain for the money. I shopped all over before purchasing. They really smelled good when we unpacked them (like a cedar smell). I suggest that you paint them before use as they are unfinished. I am also going to use carpenters glue as I assemble to give them more strength and they will then hold up longer since we are then going to have a friend paint murals on them with parrots and palm trees. Can't wait to see the finished products. Very pleased with purchase ! !

Hayneedle was flawless in the processing of our order and our chairs arrived within a week. We chose unfinished chairs so that we could customize the color. Assembly was simple and it took no more than 20 minutes to assemble each chair. The chairs are attractive but we do have concerns over the apparent strength of the wood. You can hear the wood creak under stress as you get into or out of the seat. We are hoping that is just the chair breaking in and not breaking. Being that I weigh under 200 pounds, it comes as a shock that the chairs would not support my weight. Other than that we are happy with the comfort and appearance of the chairs.

I bought this for my father for Father's Day. We assembled it very easily and he can let it weather naturally, spray paint, or stain it. Very comfortable. Standard chair cushions fit in it perfectly for even more comfort.

I'll write this with the caveat that we haven't sat in them yet, since the paint is drying. That being said, we're very pleased with how light they are and how simple assembly was. For the price, these chairs were a wonderful solution to some additional outdoor seating we wanted without turning to plastic. Of course, if they collapse when I'm through painting....

I ordered 5 of these chairs to paint with murals on them and have only had a chance to prime and put 3 of them together. So far so good. They were packed really well and the instructions were super easy to follow. Took me about 25 minutes to put the first one together and about 15 each for the other two. I glued each piece of wood before I screwed it together to add a little extra strength.
I wish the wood were a little heavier but all in all they seem to be great chairs.
