Mahogany is a tropical hardwood that is easily maintained and is insect, fungus, and rot resistant. It is a hard, strong wood comparable in strength to Oak and Teak, and is more dent resistant than Cedar or Pine. In the best interest of our environment, we take every effort to ensure that our Mahogany is sourced from well-managed permanent forests that allocate re-plantation.
This Adirondack rocker is shipped partially assembled. Assembly is easy and requires only common household tools.
Present the perfect gift to a loved one or keep this one for yourself; the Mahogany Adirondack Rocking Chair will be your favorite outdoor seat.
Our furniture is constructed of Kiln dried 5/4" Dark Red Meranti Variety Mahogany. We use 5/4" lumber throughout our entire product line, with the finished thickness of 1 1/16" thick. Mahogany is a tropical hardwood that is easily maintained and is insect, fungus and rot resistant. It is a hard and strong wood comparable in strength to Oak and Teak, and is much more scratch resistant than Cedar or Pine. With the best regards for our environment we take every effort to ensure that our Mahogany is sourced from well-managed permanent forests that allocate re-plantation.
All our exposed hardware is of the highest quality brass with stainless steel finish to eliminate rust and staining of the wood. Our bolts are of 5/16" diameter to give us a strong securing fastener. We also use 5/16" hanger bolts for fastening the back of the arm to the back leg. (A hanger bolt is a bolt that is a wood screw on one side and nut threaded on the other). Hanger bolts give the arm a very strong, sturdy and non breakable fasten to the chair.
Some of the special features of our furniture include plugged screw holes that are sanded flush for a smooth finish. It has been our experience that plugged screw holes not only look and feel nice by adding a touch of quality but they also provide a purpose. With a screw hole just countersunk the wood has a tendency to surface crack at the middle of the screw hole and extend to the end grain of the wood. Though this kind of cracking is not damaging to the furniture we can prevent this from happening by simply plugging the screw holes. We also provide button caps to cover screw holes that have to be left unplugged for shipping and reassembly by the customer leaving no exposed holes on the finished product. All edges of our furniture is routered with a ½" round over. This gives our furniture a smooth sculptured look and feel and eliminates snags and splinters.

Caring for your furniture and obtaining the look you desire.
The Mahogany Adirondack Chair is constructed of Dark Red Meranti Variety Mahogany. Meranti Mahogany is a tropical hardwood harvested under strict government control allocating reforestation. It is very durable, insect resistant and rot resistant. As with all wood it is a living material and will continue to respond to climate conditions even after being made into a piece of furniture. It is for this reason there are many steps that can be taken to obtain the desired look you want out of your furniture.
Rustic look: If you leave your Mahogany Adirondack Chair outdoors and unprotected from the elements it will weather to a light silvery gray. As with any wood left unprotected you may notice some surface checking and raised grain as it ages. This is normal and doesnt affect the structural integrity of your furniture. Recommended maintenance while achieving the rustic look is to periodically wash your furniture using a mix of 10% bleach and water to remove dust, dirt or stains that might present itself onto your furniture.
Maintaining the natural color: The Mahogany Adirondack Chair comes with a boiled linseed oil finish. If you prefer to maintain the natural beauty of the Mahogany wood enhanced by the Boiled Linseed Oil finish we recommend a periodic maintenance application of Boiled linseed oil. Boiled Linseed Oil, Teak Oil or name brand deck water proofing containing UV protection are suitable finishes. Apply using a multi-purpose spray bottle and wipe off excess oil with a cloth. Applying the oil will ensure the furniture is protected from color fading UV rays and its appearance maintained.
A periodic application is recommended as weather conditions indicate for your area.
Note: We like to remind you to please read all instructions on the label of the oil you use and follow proper procedures for discarding rags.
Polyurethane finish: Polyurethane can be used, however, it is only recommended if your furniture is not going to be placed in direct sunlight. Polyurethane dries hard on top of the surface of the wood (like paint) instead of soaking into the wood such as Boiled Linseed or Teak Oil. If placed in direct sunlight a polyurethane finish may crack and chip.
Painting your furniture: The Mahogany Adirondack Chair comes with a Boiled Linseed Oil finish. However, you can still choose to paint the furniture if you desire. If you choose to paint the furniture it is recommended that you first apply an oil based primer. Use of paint should be of a high grade exterior paint.

Comments about Hyres Country Haven Hyre's Country Haven Mahogany Adirondack Rocking Chair:
There were initially some shipping problems which were not the fault of Hayneedle and which they went to some pains to correct. I found the chair to be everything I had hoped it would be. It is easy to assemble if you've had any experience at furniture assembly. There are no written instructions; rather there is complete photo documentation. You should take the time to check the parts photos and numbers particularly the hardware. If you study the photos and look at what hardware is called for you will find assembly straight forward. Assembly can be completed with a screwdriver (Phillips) and small wrench (I used a socket wrench because it is faster.)
The finish is not what you would expect with most indoor furniture, it will take some extra work if you want a really finished appearance. The use of both boiled linseed oil and teak oil has been mentioned in other reviews and seem to work well. It will probably work fine outside if you don't want the additional work.
The chair is very comfortable and will fit all but the largest person. I have no problem rocking easily and comfortably. It is very sturdy, well made and the predrilled holes line up smoothly and correctly. I have already bought a second chair.

Very well made. While not very difficult to assemble, the directions leave a lot to be desired. Finally gave up reading all the text and just assembled it on how I figured it should go together. Very comfortable too.

Comments about Hyres Country Haven Hyre's Country Haven Mahogany Adirondack Rocking Chair:
We love these on our patio around our firepit. They are so comfortable. My husband broke his neck years ago and experiences pain in his neck and back. These chairs have caused him no pain only relaxation. Some people have reviewed that the chair was hard to put together but if you can read instructions, you can do it. I plan on ordering 2 more.

Comments about Hyres Country Haven Hyre's Country Haven Mahogany Adirondack Rocking Chair:
While this chair is extremly comfortable..I gave it an avg rating do to stain work..being a high end price point, the stains on the two chairs ordered didn't match-one dark, one light. The light chair also has dark spots of stain in conspicuous places. Will take some effort to match them up now.
