Once put together, the stainless steel bowl would not fit down inside the ring. It sits rather lopsided with a gap between it and the base. It appears that the base is not completely round. Plus some of the metal arms were packed with tape around them, and when pulling off the tape, the paint came off. Overall, I'm not too pleased, but it was too much trouble to pack back up to send back, plus I got it on sale with [...] so we're going to use it as-is.

[...]The paint on the under side of the bowl peeled off during the first use and emitted quite a lot of unpleasant odor. On the second use it peeled off some more paint, but there was not as much odor. Still it is a good looking item and seem sturdy enough to provide several years of use.

Overall, this fire pit is very attractive, but I believe it has a couple of minor design flaws. The stainless steel bowl, the wood grate, and the spark guard all "float" on the structure, so they can shift slightly if bumped, etc. This could a) cause the unit to appear sloppy and misaligned, b) allow the bowl to more easily blow away, and c) potentially present a safety hazard if it shifted significantly while a fire was burning. My suggestion would be to enhance the design so the bowl would be held firmly (and squarely) in place, and put tabs on the inside of the bowl (similar to some kettle grills) that would allow the grate to be seated firmly into the bowl. Other than those minor issues, the product is very attractive, and should give years of enjoyment.
